What do you suppose is a relatively big driver for mobile web usage? Music downloads? Breaking news? How about the weather forecast?

Guess again. The draconian rules that exist within the domain of corporate IT departments are fully extended to cordon off social networks. You can’t have the workers socializing online during office hours now can you? But what corporate IT departments haven’t gotten their heads around is the fact that the mobile web is here. Yes that’s right, the salary slaves are now getting their social networking fix through their handsets.

The number of people sitting in their office towers contributing their part to the big machine that are regularly taking Facebook breaks through their Nokia or Sony Ericsson is defintely on the rise. The Mobile web never had it so good! Despite the limited functionality on the mobile version, Facebook is winning over an audience of addicted adults that are guiltily gaining access on their third screen. Trying to stop this would be the equivalent of trying to stop people from taking cigarette breaks at work. I can picture it now, a group of office workers all huddled together in the freezing cold outside an office building staring intently at their handsets.

Corporate IT can distribute as many BlackBerries as they want to try and stem the tide of mobile web access. The fact is I don’t know a single corporate soul that doesn’t have their own mobile handset as well as the company issue BB. The workers will have their Face (Book) time!
