Travel Trends and Why You Should Avoid Them

Don't make me laugh. Travel trends. What's this? Is it now that they are trying to influence us as they have been doing with the clothing? Don't you see how crazy is it the impact that fashion in clothes has nowadays for such a stupid thing? Come on, get a pair of old jeans and white T-shirt and you are done! Unfortunately, the same begins to happen with the travel industry, as top travel destinations or travel trends begin to catch the little brains of many people around.

Simple and easy. What's a travel trend? The place where more people happened to come together this year on a touristic trip. Sounds pretty good. Unfortunately, the first law of the traveler, which says that you should never follow the crowd, is completely on red alarm after hearing the word "travel trend" or "top travel destinations".

My question is then about who should decide where I want to go on vacations. The crowd or myself? Well, I hope it can be myself, wouldn't like to get on the same plane as everybody as it would be overcrowded... In any case, it seems that like in fashion, travel trends are hitting hard to all those who do not have personality enough as to decide on themselves.

That makes me remember and old friend of mine back in school days. I was the typical guy that never followed a trend, I was dressing with my blue not-well-known-brand jeans and my white not-well-known-brand T-shirt. He was dressed in the skater style. He looked at me one day and he told me: "Dani, I don't know why you dress like that. It seems like if you don't have personality!".

My answer was the following: "Maybe better not to have personality than to have the same one as a 100 million people on Earth have". Of course what I meant is that he was the one who didn't have personality. By the way, I'm still wondering if he understood.

In any case, travel trends are here to set what we should do, sometimes not in a compulsory way, but they influence our mind with statistical information of what the other sheep does. And we like to do this it seems. I would recommend to have a bit of common sense and in front of everything put your informed decisions on the front.

And yes, I said informed decisions. I'm not telling you to avoid reading about travel destinations to avoid being convinced. I'm just telling that if after your research your feeling is to head to a determined place, don't let it go. Some times you will be with the crowd, some others not. Even sheep sometimes go in the right direction.
